According to 49 CFR 178.811, the bottom lift test requires the following:

* Applicability: It must be conducted to qualify all Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) design types that are designed to be lifted from the base.

* Preparation: You must load the IBC to 1.25 times its maximum permissible gross mass, ensuring the load is evenly distributed.

* Test Method: You must raise and lower the IBC twice using a lift truck. The forks must be centrally positioned, spaced at three-quarters of the dimension of the entry side (unless the entry points are fixed), and must penetrate three-quarters of the way into the direction of entry. This entire process must be repeated from every possible direction of entry.

* Passing Criteria: To pass the test under 49 CFR 178.811, the IBC must not suffer any permanent deformation that makes it unsafe for transportation, and there must be no loss of contents.
