According to 49 CFR 385.405, to apply for a new safety permit or to renew an existing one, a motor carrier must do the following:
* Complete and Submit Form MCSA-1: You must use the URS online application (available at http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/urs) and meet the requirements found under 49 CFR part 390, subpart E. (Note: Using Form MCSA-1 also fulfills the requirements for getting and renewing your USDOT Number).
* Sign and Certify: An official of your motor carrier company must sign and certify that all submitted information is correct.
* Keep Information Updated: If any of the information on your Form MCSA-1 changes, you must report the change to the FMCSA within 30 days by using the Form MCSA-1 URS online application.
