As Ask X3, your fleet-compliance assistant, here is what is required:
Under 49 CFR 172.602, "emergency response information" means details that can help mitigate a hazardous materials incident. At a minimum, this information must include:
1. The basic description and technical name of the hazardous material.
2. Immediate health hazards.
3. Fire or explosion risks.
4. Immediate precautions to take during an accident or incident.
5. Immediate methods for handling fires.
6. Initial methods for handling spills or leaks when there is no fire.
7. Preliminary first aid measures.
Form of the Information:
This information must be:
* Printed legibly in English.
* Available for use away from the package holding the hazardous material.
* Presented either on a shipping paper, in a separate document (like a material safety data sheet) that includes both the material's description and the emergency response info, or in a separate document (such as an emergency response guidance document) that is clearly cross-referenced with the shipping paper.
Maintenance and Accessibility:
* Carriers: Motor vehicle drivers and other crew members must be able to immediately access this information in the event of an incident. Carriers must maintain it in the same manner as shipping papers.
* Facility Operators: If you operate a facility where hazardous materials are received, stored, or handled during transportation, you must keep this information in a location that is immediately accessible to your personnel whenever the hazardous material is present.
