Based on 49 CFR 390.33, if you use a commercial motor vehicle of one type to perform the functions normally performed by a commercial motor vehicle of another type, all the regulations and requirements for that second vehicle type (and its operation) apply to your vehicle just as if it actually were that second type of vehicle. For example, if you use a vehicle that is not a bus to do the work of a bus, all the rules regarding buses and passenger transportation apply to your vehicle.
