As a motor-carrier owner, you must ensure that any package of Class 7 (radioactive) material is designed, constructed, and loaded so that:
1. The heat generated inside the package by the radioactive contents will not affect the package's integrity during normal transport conditions.
2. The temperature of the package's accessible external surfaces—assuming still air in the shade at an outside temperature of 38 °C (100 °F)—does not exceed:
* 50 °C (122 °F) for shipments other than exclusive use.
* 85 °C (185 °F) for exclusive use shipments.
These requirements are outlined in 49 CFR 173.442.
