As a motor-carrier owner, according to 49 CFR 172.600, you must ensure that emergency response information is provided and maintained whenever hazardous materials are transported, loaded, stored, transferred, or otherwise handled.
Specifically, you must meet the following general requirements:
1. Immediate Availability: Conforming emergency response information must be immediately available for use at all times while the hazardous material is present.
2. Access for Officials: The emergency response information—including the required emergency response telephone number—must be immediately available to any Federal, State, or local government representative who responds to an incident or conducts an investigation involving the hazardous material.
*Note: These requirements do not apply if your hazardous material shipment is excepted from shipping paper requirements.*
