What does 49 CFR 172.324 (Hazardous substances in non-bulk packagings) require?
Generated guidance. Confirm the source and its applicability before you act. How we check sources.
Based on 49 CFR 172.324, for each non-bulk package containing a hazardous substance (excluding radioactive materials labeled under § 172.403), you must do the following:
* Identify the substance: If the proper shipping name does not name the hazardous substance, you must mark the package with the name of the hazardous substance in parentheses right next to the proper shipping name. If the material contains two or more hazardous substances, you must identify at least two of them, specifically the two with the lowest reportable quantities (RQs). Alternatively, for hazardous waste, you may use the appropriate waste code (such as D001) to identify the substance.
* Mark "RQ": You must clearly mark the letters “RQ” on the package in association with the proper shipping name.
* Limited quantities: If you have a package of limited quantity material marked under § 172.315, it must also be marked to meet these requirements.
